by Tom Alderton

OKALOOSA ISLANDERS RUGBY FOOTBALL CLUB

SUMMER SEVENS TOURNAMENT

 FREEPORT SPORTS COMPLEX

MAY 16TH 2009

The Okaloosa Rugby Club’s summer seven’s tournament was held at the Freeport Sports Complex, an outstanding facility that spectators and competitors alike enjoyed. Many thanks go out to the Freeport City Council for use of this facility. A special thanks to Shane Supple for marking and having the fields in excellent condition.

There were 18 teams involved in the tournament. 12 club teams and 7 U19 teams.

The club teams were: New Orleans, Panama City, UWF, Battleship, Jackson, Okaloosa, Auburn, UCF, SLU, GA TECH, UCF and USF.

The U19’s were:  Niceville A, Niceville B, Cherokee A, Cherokee B, Boggy Bayou, Columbus and Wheeler.

After 8 hours of fast and exciting Rugby, finalists were found. In the U19 section, Cherokee A played Niceville A. with Cherokee A winning 38-0. The scoreline may look one sided but Niceville never gave up, Cherokee were too big and fast.

The club final was between New Orleans and Battleship, with New Orleans being the victor.
