Audubon (Youth) Rugby Club Forms

Conrad Briet says, “Most of the credit goes to Paul M and Sammy F for their efforts in starting and coaching the club.

Below is a brief history of the inception of the club as provided by Breit:

The Audubon Rugby Club (Barbarians) was started by Paul Miniclier (Notre Dame RFC) in the fall of 2011 as the result of the desire of his two sons to play high school rugby. The high school they attend does not have a rugby club affiliated with the school so the Audubon Rugby Club was formed by Paul Miniclier as a club not affiliated with any particular high school. Paul reached out to Gary Giepert (Louisiana High School Rugby Commissioner) in order form the club and in order to be included in the league. The team is open to any high school student in the New Orleans area who desires to play rugby regardless of what school he attends. There are several different schools represented on the roster and some players travel from as far as Destrehan, Mandeville & Baton Rouge. The head coach is Sam Farnet (New Orleans Old Boy and 2011 Shaw Eagles Coach) with assistance from parents/coaches Conrad Breit, Bob Olsonoski & Joe D.
